2001 Johnson 115 2 stroke I am having an issue that I have been ignoring. The tilt occasionally stops working.I had assumed it was the switch on the throttle because the switch on the cowling always seemed to work.I now have no function beyond a barely audible sound (Buzzing Relays). The noise stops after a few seconds of holding down the switch. Any Thoughts on where I should start? Thanks in advance.

Check the hydraulic fluid level in your tilt/trim unit.

Fluid has been checked. The issue seems to be electrical. Every time I start troubleshooting it begins to function properly.Seems like a voltage problem but when it functions it functions properly, not as if it has a low battery.Battery is new and charged. Both switches work.

the trim motor itself has an overload circuit in it, sounds like it is going bad. You can replace the trim motor itself or take i apart and disable the overload circuit. If you disable the circuit, put a breaker between battery and engine to prevent any electrical overload damage.

if the switch on the cowling always works but the switch on the dash has intermittent problems then it is a wiring issue. Problems with the trim system itself or relays would not vary from switch to switch.

Make sure the connection with the blue & green wires just under the relay box doesn't have any corrosion and the blades are making good contact with each other. Battery cleaner works well.

I had this issue with my 1998 115 - the plug-in connector was loose. Bending the prongs slightly in the male end allowed for better contact; problem solved.

The Blue /green wire connection may have been the issue. But at a different point. The thing I discovered today was that if I kept a 13 amp charge going I could not get a malfunction, disconnect the charger and with in moments the problem returned.

Thats a grounding or loose wiring issue

Ditto that and check the blades on the tilt solenoid plugs, any connection where corrosion can build up will eventually do so.

Just as a follow up. I tried all advice to no avail. I have giviin up and just start the motor when the trim is not functional. i have been unable to find any faults or voltage drops .
