Howdy folks.

Just wanted to stop in and introduce myself before I start asking stupid questions.

My name is James and I have recently acquired the first boat Ive ever owned. Its a 1987 Dixie Super Skier 199 with a Merc 350 I/O with an OMC Cobra outdrive.

It was given to a co-worker as an incompleted restoration project, and he soon realized that he didnt have the time to work on it. As a car guy, I was talking to him about not having a toy project anymore since I sold my car. Then after a few days, he said he had a boat that needed work, but just wanted it out of his yard and offered to give it to me, no charge. I just had to pick it up.

I was kind of leary about getting a boat. Ive never owned one, never worked on one, and didnt know what to expect. Well, he was right, it did need a lot of work. It had been stripped down and repainted with a 2-part poly and it was done poorly, but still doesnt look that bad. There is an entire laundry list of things to do before she's ready to get back on the water. This is where Im hoping to lean on the folks here for information and help.

Ive spent the last few weekends working on it, and its finally starting to look like a boat again, and not just a hull. After putting so much time into it, Im getting beyond excited to see it through to completion and getting it on the water.

I'll try to get some pix posted sooner or later.

See y'all around!

Welcome to iboats, and the guys here can walk you through any repairs you will need.

I hope you got the tittle and paper work straight before you set in on it.

I havent done anything on my end as far as getting it registered and titled yet, but I do have the title in hand with the previous owners signature and a bill of sale.

Thanks! I grew up on Lake Wylie. Do you know where River Point is, before you get to the Buster Boyd Bridge? I grew up on a piece of lakefront property long before they started building multi-million dollar houses there. Im the only person I knew that can say I grew up in a doublewide trailer on the lake with a $2M house over looking it.

After high school, I joined the Navy, and when I got out, I couldnt bring myself to move anywhere else but the Charlotte area.

Welcome aboard!! First off I gotta tell ya, from personal experience, don't worry about 'asking stupid questions' around here.. I have been asking a bunch of questions myself, and everyone here is extremely helpful. Sounds like your off to a good start on your project! Just remember, if there's no pictures, it never happened! lmao

Also along with that boat ya got, and becoming a member of this forum, prepare yourself to contract multiple diseases, such as M.B.S (multiple boat syndrome), and a few others.. lol

Ah, but you havent seen the link in my sig! There are pix as proof, it really did happen. Ive got the skinned knuckles to agree with them too!

I dont think the missus will be very understanding if I contract MBS. PWC, maybe. Any other diseases may be grounds for divorce! (come to think about it, I'll keep that thought in my back pocket. In case I ever want her to leave. ;) )

ahhh, good call! I didn't even notice that link! lol As for the misses, don't worry, if she's anything like mine, after you take her out in that boat a few times, she get's the 'taste' of the boating life, she'll be wanting to upgrade just as much as you! lol Heck my wife is convinced that by this time next year we'll have a 21'+ cuddy cabin to drag around.... I, on the other hand being the realist, know that unless it's JUST the hull, it ain't happenin lol

Wow. I made up my mind a long ago, the only thing I would ever own would be a bow rider. I was shocked when she told me I could drag it home. I think I would have a heart attack if she said I could get anything that even rhymes with cuddy cabin.

Welcome aboard!
Thanks!

LOL! Well, from the time I was born, until I was probably 14yrs. old, my dad owned two boats at any given time, and one was always a cuddy cabin (last one he had was a 23' and that thing was SWEET! lol). Ever since my wife started really getting into boating this year, I have been sharing all the stories of when I was growing up, going to either Lake Michigan or Lake Erie every weekend, and we would just stay on the boat, only mooring/docking to go eat and shower... Some of the best memories I have are from those trips, and my stories have gotten her to the point that she wants to take our tri-hull up to Erie and stay on it! haha I told her no way am I staying the night on that boat on Lake Erie, but as soon as I get my cuddy, that's the first place we're heading!

I tri-hull on Erie would be the equivilant of a lean to on land. Anything less than a cuddy overnight just doesnt strike me as a good idea!

My sentiments exactly lol. One of these days i'll find me a deal on a cuddy but until then, the only trips to erie for this redneck are day trips
