I was down at the baitshop today and noticed a flyer on the wall about an invasive species in Minnesota that was not present here before the europeans came. This species can kill native grasses and flowers and can also prevent saplings from getting there start. This invasive species does all this damage by eliminating the layer of duff on the forrest floor that these plants require. The invasive speicies is worms NO this is not a joke it said all 13 spiecies of worms in Minnesota are invasive. Here all these years I was led to believe worms were a sign of healthy soil.

I feel so violated that i've been living this atrocity, what can I do to right this wrong. I'm at a loss; guess I'll have my son go dig some worms and take him fishing that always makes me feel better.

Better hurry before they ban there possesion!

Re: Invasive Species

Let's not even mention the West Indies Manatee. I hope for you northern types' sake, that the species isn't found in your waters. If it is, kill it quickly, and bury it. If the "Save The Manatee Club" finds out about it, you'll be stuck going idle speed everywhere.
I hear ya laughing from here, and we laughed too, back in the late 80's. We no longer do, as we buy another supply of decarb for the old outboard every week.

Re: Invasive Species

When I moved into my first house around 12 years ago, I went to the garden center and bought some buckthorn bushes to plant as a barrier to my neighbors. Only to find out recently that these are an invasive species as well. The birds eat the little red berries and distribute the seeds and this stuff grows wherever it is dropped and basically is choking our wooded areas. Huge problem.

Pretty crazy..

Re: Invasive Species

neumanns

Every since the first caveman crossed over a hill, there has been invasive species of some sort and it can also occur naturally.

The mobility of man has accelerated it dramatically. Snakes that hang on aircraft landing gears, have cleaned out most of the Hawaii and Guam bird populations.

The dandelion is a European transplant

Go fishing and forget about it. The fish probably don't care where the worms came from. :p

Re: Invasive Species

Dont forget about the SnakeHead, from what I have read about it, it is a very bad thing. I have read that it will eat a lake clean, and that they are have a hell of a time with it up north, also have read that they might have to poison the lakes up there to get rid of it. Not a good deal.
