My wife and I are having an invisible fence put in next week. We have a larger yard and with the new pup we thought it would be nice to have her roam freely and get much needed exercise during the week.

Anyone have experience with this system? Do they work as well as promised? I am anxious to get it in as Addie is pushing 50 pounds now and in perfect fittness. I want to keep her healthy and happy. This I hope will be a good way to keep her exercising and engaged.

Re: Invisible Fence for dogs

I've heard good and bad. Smaller dogs with shorter hair coat they work well. Larger dogs with a thick coat have some problems. My one buddy had one for his chow. The dog would run and chase another critter right across the fence. Then the dog wouldn't come back to the house because he would be getting shocked trying to get back. I think it all depends on the dog, my buds chow was numb and dumb. Finally a bulldog got him on the highway,,,,,,,its name was Mack. :D

Keeper is now hitting about 160 pounds. I have him on a steel cable that runs the length of my back yard. Tad bit over 100 yards. On the cable I have a 25' chain attached to a pulley. Over the past 6 years, I've only had to replace the pulley a couple of times. I just like knowing my dog is mechanically fastened so he can't get into trouble.

Good luck on Addie, sounds like she is packing on some weight. Any new pics? Thanks Pointer

It all depends on the dog Pointer. I've found that really hyper breeds pay it no attention. They will run right through it even though they know they will be shocked. More submissive breeds it works great on though. I used to have an acre fenced in, in rural GA and it worked great for my Lab, but the Border Collie paid it no mind. Like it wasn't even there. She'd get a running start and just bolt through the thing. A little yelp and then she was free. Dang dog! :D

A friend has two rottweilers - it works great on them. They just have to learn where the borders are. And once that is established, the electric fence hardly gets used.

Sean

Pointer, IMO they are the most humane and effective way to train your dog. I have labs and all have learned quickly. Great choice.

Re: Invisible Fence for dogs

This is about the sixth dog I have owned. And the smartest by far. I am confident that it will learn. (it better they don't give these things away). As goldens go, it it rather laid back. This is my second golden and it is scary smart. Not the athlete that my first was, but really scary smart. House trained in less than a week, has done zero damage to any furnature or clothing, learned its name in days, picks up tricks in short order, can even discriminate from its pile of toys.

But it has a streak or defiance than concerns me. Well they put in the system next week and I hope by the end of the month it has things figured out.

Thanks txs, I hope I meet with the same sucess you have. :)
