I quietly sat by as the pro remarks were posted by veterans from Iraq service out of admiration and respect.

However, it is now coming to light that in fact many if not most veterans have found the war as unacceptable. I expect an all out attack on this issue and to be condemned as one of the nay sayers of back in vn era.

Regardless it should not go unnoted on this site that the upcoming election for Congress has 10 veterans of Iraq running. Nine, yes 9 are running on the Democractic ticket. Only one is pro-war and running as a Republican, Van Taylor from Texas.

Veterans are no different that the civilian public, the war is going poorly as it was wrong to invade, we sent unprepared and under numbered troops into harms way and lead by a President that had no concept of the reality of war.

Re: Iraq Veterans

I suppose you came to this conclusion from just the nine that is running for office.
I kinda find it hard to believe that a conclusion can be known from just a hand full of people and not the whole lot.
We post things here for the sake of hope in that our brothers and sisters come home unharmed.
We do this out of respect for them and the love of our country.
You sir remind me of a festering sore that hasn't had any ointment put on it. You have got to have a pile to stir in or you aren't happy.
Grow up young man and enjoy this great country of ours for what she is and what she will be.
I have been around the world and this USA is the best going.
The last thing I will say on this subject and ridiculous post you have started her is if you don't like it here and the way it is run then pack your dam bags and go to where ever.

Bubbakat, Actually I have served my country and your simply trash talk is no more than ignorant rant because you have nothing to offer. It is probably best that you keep your mouth shut if all you can say is love my way or leave. You see the post on here do not represent the opines of all the troops but there is a certain rise in those opposing.

By the way several of these persons probably served this country as well as you have.

Re: Iraq Veterans

Don't you know it is unpatriotic as an American to disagree with its leaders?

Seriously, I'm not sure what the numbers prove, other than some vets agree, and some don't agree, with the current policies of this gov't. Since they are, after all, Americans, that can't come as a big shock to anyone. Can it???

Re: Iraq Veterans

What, we have some turncoats and weasels that come back here and badmouth the US and our policies ? More worthless losers like John Kerry !
I am so sorry you volentarily joined the military, expecting college grants and pay and OOPPS!!!! You actually had to fight....how did that happen ?? Perhaps, you should have actually listened to the oath and obligation you took when you signed up for military SERVICE. For anyone that served....THANK YOU, our whole country owes you. What some of us cannot stand, is those that signed up, and have nothing but bad things to say about the US.....If you think fighting for beliefs is wrong, why are you in the military ?

I think you are confusing many issues, just so you make make it fit your idealogy.

Just because 9 vets are running on a democratic ticket doesnt make them anti-war, nor does it make "many if not most" vets anti-war.

Also, you are putting words into their mouth as you dont know if they are anti-war or wanted the war and just dont like how its being handled.

Can you tell me the last time a country was conquered, then rebuilt with less than 3000 lives lost? I call that flipping amazing.

Ken

Re: Iraq Veterans

I rarely comment in threads like this and really ought not to get into this one, but ...

I am retired Naval Aviation and did multiple Carrier tours in VN, but made many close Marine frinds during that time.

I currently live next to Camp Lejeune (roughly 64,000 Marines and the staging point for the Middle East). I fish with Marines, hunt with Marines, boat with Marines, drink with Marines most of whom have at least one deployment under their belt and most have more than one.

I didn't like the war I participated in. No one who has REALLY been there does like war and hopes no one else will ever have to go through one.

These Marines are no diffferent - they don't like war either, but, to a man, they have no problem honoring the wishes of the American people and the President. All who have gone did so willingly and all those who will go are eager to "get it done".

So, I don't find it unusual to see ex-military who dislike war, nor do I find it strange to see any prospective representative running under the Democratic ticket to use the party platform to further his personal and professional goals.

But above all .. I really don't see an issue here, based on such a small database.

One must not have much to do, if they can find nothing better to do with their time other than sit around and whine about the political policys of this administration or for that manner any administration. Some misuse this forum and others to continualy expound their politics, I thought this was a MARINE FORUM not a political one, so to you who have to expound your politics please find a politcal forum. Get a life  Bob

Dockside Chat
Here to talk not only about boating but just want to enjoy the huge community of members at iboats? This is the place for you! This area is highly moderated so please keep it clean, be respectful of others and just be nice.
You go Laddies. Yikes, here I am trying to be glib and all of sudden, JB's comment on Google takes on an entirely different light. Maybe I should have said go get em, or gitrdone.

Re: Iraq Veterans

It would be really nice if we could simply debate ideas without insulting attacks on those who have them.

This thread is about what TXS says "many" Iraq veterans think. It is not about the veterans or about TXS. Even the brightest of us and the most patriotic of us have a stupid idea or two.

Let's debate the value of the ideas, guys, not the value of the people who have them.
