usmcguru,<br /><br />The engine has a good reputation. As with any outboard, the basics need to be covered.<br /><br />Look for these.<br /><br />1. Overall condition-corosion, etc.<br /><br />2. Compression. Over 100 psi and within 5 psi of each other. Do all the spark plugs look the same. A real clean one means water intrusion.<br /><br />3. Lower unit fluid clear and not milky and free of metal.
