I have a 1999 Yamaha 150 2-stroke. It is the "Plain Jane" model... C150 I think it's called. I was looking at specs and noticed that the 150-175-200 & 225 bore and stroke specs are all the same. What is it that makes these outboards differ in horsepower ratings? The only thing that I can think of is the carburation.
If I am correct, could I swap my carbs with those from a 200? Would I then have a 200 horsepower outboard? Or is there more to it then that? I am curious! If this is a true and feasible assumption... what year model 200hp outboard carbs would work on my '99 150?
Thanks in advance!
Brian

Carbs alone will not make your 150 into a 200hp.
There are other parts like heads, reeds, exhaust mods that will need to happen in addition to the carbs.

Check out the Yamaha-Motor online parts catalog and compare the two engines.

http://www.yamaha-motor.com/outboard/parts/home.aspx
----------------------------------------------------------------

http://www.boatsetup.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=7;t=000754#000000

"Bolting on the carbs is good for about 300 rpms. Depending on the model, there are other bolt on mods that will also boost horsepower. Pro V 200's already have the carbs. If the 150 is a vertical front half model, it can be boosted to over 200hp with bolt ons."
