I have too many naked chick pictures to fit on that knob, so I use a solid steering wheel.
Not really. I put one on my 21' and really love having it, especially since I back into my slip. Bu tI doubt I'd bother with one on a smaller boat or more crowded helm; it does catch on stuff like the PFD sometimes.
You have to set it so that it's out of the way, either top of the wheel or one side; bottom is a risk to the boys as noted.
Also don't get the ones from the auto parts store if you use your boat in salt water or leave it outdoors.
