A 4100lb Boat on a 4500lb rated trailer gives you 400lbs for fuel and equipment.
It is close but workable. Keep the tires properly inflated!

What makes you think the boat is 4100 lbs?
Was that Then... or is that now?
Has it been weighted recently?

Boat are like people, they tend to gain weight with age.:D

According to the numbers, you are still within the boundaries of 'safe', as long as you do not load up the boat with too much 'stuff'.

Knowing the actual weight of the boat/trailer would be good, boats have a tendency to gain weight as they age.

And iBoats says the 229 was 4142lbs. Close enough!

That is what it weighed 23 years ago as it left the factory.
Bone dry, No Fuel, No equipment, No Soggy Wood. It hasn't weight that since!
The issue we keep hinting at is; What does YOUR Boat weigh TODAY!?
It could easily have gained a few hundred pounds without you knowing about it.

But the question of, "Is It Safe?"

Answer. It is as safe as it ever was. And No safer than you should expect. :)

By the time you put in 50 gallons of fuel, batteries, and gear, you are overweight.

Are the correct load rated tires even on the trailer?

People often replace with a cheap alternative to cut corners.

Now you get to add the weight of xx gallons of fuel, at least one battery, a cover or bimini if it has one, an anchor, coolers, adult beverages, life jackets, fishing tackle, water skis, (you get the picture.) I'm guessing you will be very close or slightly over the 4500#.

Re: Is it safe

What did he up grade them to would be the question. And is it a single or a double axle and for a boat that size it should have breaks on at least one axle. Around 3500 is what most single axles are rated at so I am guessing its a double.
