I for one am glad to see this.

When I asked why there is not a buy/sell parts forum, I got a BS answer that there used to be one but it was shut down for lack of interest (yeah right).
When I questioned that, I got a different answer that iboats already sells stuff and doesn't want the competition. Well yeah, but do they sell stuff like original fittings for a 1960's Starcraft?

I can, however, see why a buy/sell forum might be a moderator headache for many reasons. I wonder what the restrictions will be?

Craigslist is 99% loonies. This place is only 97% loonies (but 100% people interested in boating!)
But seriously, say you need some very unique part for your resto, do you really think you're more likely to find it through craigslist than you would through the membership of this forum?

OK, I'm calling BS. Well, maybe BS. I'm not sure. Just seems odd that iboats would be advertising a new service and not bother to tell existing members about it.

I can't navigate to the linked page through iboats, only through Google. However, when I clicked the regiser button it recognised me as a current member. Odd.

Well, there was very little interest, and I can only remember a half dozen or so items ever listed for sale.
There were several reason for this, but none the less, it went unused.

I hope that all the adds will be screened -- BEFORE they appear on iboats.
Seems like that would be the easiest way to keep out the spammers and to keep people from listing items that iboats sells on their various url's.

We will see.

The old buy/sell forum went unused because there was a listing fee. You had to pay if the item sold or not. Kind of a tough sell since most classified sections on other boards are free.
I have noticed more outright fraud lately on other boards so if this does happen you better be careful.

Very true! This is a great site, and on average the members here are a cut above any other forum or internet group I have seen, however, that doesn't mean you will want to trust and make best friends with EVERYONE on the board.

I have personally met several on this board and count each and every one of them my friend. I have personally corresponded with several others, and think they are great people, but that doesn't mean I trust EVERYONE on this board. If, in fact, the classifieds is coming soon, be careful. Don't just assume that everyone will be honest and trustworthy (although the majority of the board members will be, I believe).

My caution runs even to not posting WHEN I will be out of town. Don't need that info out on the board for all to see. A little caution can go a long way ... just a friendly reminder.

Free listing doesn't mean there won't be a charge/fee of some sort.

ebay has free listings right now too, but you still pay for photos etc, and if it sells.

Let's all just wait and see what the iboats gurus have in mind.

I think the lack of any post by a moderator here may suggest that this is real (pure speculation).

What I'm trying to say is that if the buy sell section was not going to happen I'm sure one of the mods would have piped in. Unless of course they too are in the dark.

This page is from many many moons ago! Maybe from 2003 or 2004? No idea how it was found. I don't even remember the business plan we had for it. That said, we are NOT planning on doing this service. What we have going on right now seems to be working ok. Nothing to see here folks, keep moving along...
