Hi there,

I have a 1988 bayliner capri that needs a new floor and the seats need to be recovered...my question here is: Does anyone think it is worth doing these repairs (myself) to the floor and seats when the boat has a 1988-85hp Force with a 122 psi in all 3 cylinders. I just don't want to make all these repairs then to have the motor pooch out. If compression comes with 145-155psi from the factory then does that mean the motor is at half life??

thanks

Re: Is it worth it???

For me it was. I replaced the floor in my capri after doing a complete rebuild of my 85hp. It's alot of work, but if you are the kind of person that likes to take on projects of that nature it won't be such a big deal. If you were to pay someone to do it that might be a differen't story. I don't think your power head is at half life. Try de-carbing the engine with Seafoam and see if the compression comes up from there. If not, the compression still doesn't seem all that low to me and they are even across the board so that's a good thing. If you choose to take on the floor, be careful cutting it out. There are sections where you can easily go through the hull. Good luck.
