Is my mercruiser ford or chevy? 5.0 MPI

I was talking to a guy at work about my boat and he told me he thought my engine was a ford? I had just assumed it was a chevy? Here are the details:

2007 Mercruiser Bravo 3 outdrive with a 5.0 MPI 260 HP in a Trophy Pro.

I couldn't find this info in any searches....

Ayuh,... Mercruiser hasn't used a Ford motor since about 1979....

5.0 is a term used by both Chevy and Ford... but like Bond-o says, it's not a Ford, it is a 305 c.i. Chevy.

The 5.0 is what made me think I could have been wrong...I had always assumed it was the chevy 305 and not the ford 302. If it was a ford that would be like my parents telling me I'm not there kid!!!! Total depression and betrayal...

I hadn't seen the GM site before. I must be blind becuase I still couldn't find any info that said if the 5.0 was a ford or chevy product...

Nice car...what is it? I don't think I'd be able to have a daily driver like that here in Alaska. My last 4 trucks have all been chevy and I've had good luck with all of them.

I had a 28' Trophy once that had a Volvo Outdrive (Duo Prop Conversion) with a 350 chevy engine in it. It was an '84 I believe. They must have switched up too then?

It doesn't take a lot to ID a Ford and Chevy 5.0L engine.
The Chevy has the distributor in the back.
The Ford has the distributo in the Front of the engine.

Ayuh,... Mercruiser abandoned Ford in the late 70s...
Ford abandoned the marine market entirely around 95...

It doesn't take a lot to ID a Ford and Chevy 5.0L engine.
The Chevy has the distributor in the back.
The Ford has the distributo in the Front of the engine.

And Chrysler did it Both ways.....

But Chrysler was NEVER used by Mercruiser, OMC, or Volvo, nor did they make a 5.0L engine. Kind of puts them out of the question all together.

Ayuh,...F_inscreenname will dispute whether Volvo ever used Chryslers...

Doesn't Mercury Marine build the Corvette ZR-1 engines?

Mercury builds outboard engines only. All the V8 Chevy engines are built by GM, Mercruiser buys long blocks from GM and marinizes them.

Relax Don, my question was not intended to start a new thread. But, you also provided the answer I was getting to. I believe his Mercruiser 5.0 is a GM block with components assembled by Mercruiser. However, I've since emailed a friend who distributes boats and am waiting for his answer. He'll know the specifics, and I can reply with a positive detailed answer.

The question has already been answered in this thread and has been answered 100 times before this one. We know the specifics its in the darn manuals in the adults only section and by anyone with a brain that can just look at a block and know immediately if its a Ford or Chevy...
