Take a look at tinytach. It's cheap and easy to retrofit.

If you have a remote and a charging system for the battery, you should be able to install a regular tachometer at the dash. First choice would be the OMC/BRP tach, which comes with everything needed, second choice is Teleflex. You will be much happier with the full sized tachometer.

You still need to get the engine to run at 5500 RPM so that you don't lug the engine and shorten its life. That is not saying to run the motor at 5,500, but that it can. If you experiment a little more with the propellers and the setup, you will get there.

I have an OMC tach on order, should be here tomorrow. I willl install it over the weekend and try things out again next week.

From: sgobat@msn.com

Howdy - I reregistered with a real user name so I didn't have to use my email address, even figured out how to add an AVATAR.

I have the new tach. Now if I can find a 3 -3/8s hole saw I will get it installed tomorrow. I plan on being back on the water the middle of next week once the weather clears up a bit.

I will let you know how it goes.

mmm I seem to be having the same problem. I will have to try a few of those tricks.

Re: Is my motor sick or am I underpowered?

I took the boat out today. With the original 9.25 X 12 prop and the motor trimmed to the second hole out from the transom (the normal place it would be in order to be at a right angle to the surface of the water), the load distributed as far forward as possible and carrying about 600 lbs, including the motors. I was able to get up on plane immediately and topped out at 22 mph. The boat ran smoothly, slightly bow up. At WOT the tach read 5,300. Normal operating range for this engine is 4,500 to 5,500.

It doesn't look like I can go to a lower pitched prop without the possibility of maxing out my rpm's. I can still raise the motor one hole and if I have the wife and dog with me I can always trim in closer to the transom.

I am happy with 22 pmh. I will just have to tinker with the load distrubution, trim and maybe motor height.

Thanks for sll of the great advice.
