Re: Is soaking carbs enough?
Soak them, clean them, compressed air and pipe cleaners through every orfice/jet. Remove the jets after soaking if you have the tool, if no tool one can be made dimensions are floating around this site.
Clean , clean and re clean before assembling back together.
Semi clogged jets mean a lean mixture for the cylinders and can cause extensive damage to the engine.
Highly reccomend using a fuel stabilizer of some sort also. Do not run the carbs dry at the ramp leave the fuel in the carbs with the stabilizer, will prevent gumming and varnish, if carbs sit empty can still get varnish from small amount of fuel in the bowls if no stabilizer used in the mix.
After you get it running and if you have not done a de-carb, reccomend you de-carb to clean all the carbon out of the cylinders. Take a compression test of the cylinders before the de-carb and then after de-carb finishd, it will suprise you what that will do for an older engine, especially and v-4 crossflow head. Worked wonder's on my 1978 115.
