Is the stop pin necessary?

If you have a perfectly working tilt and trim for your outboard, is the stop pin necessary? Will anything in the transom get damage if you completely take the stop pin out?

No it is not necessary however it will give you a reference point to the lowest setting. Some boats do not need the motor to be angled towards the transom to reach plain so the pin offers a stop point as a refernce and a timesaver. If you remove the pin keep it aboard just in case the trim ever malfunctions.<br /><br />Bob
