Is there a MANUAL tilt lock on a 1988 Force 50hp outbaord?

My power tilt is completely shot and replacements are not available and a rebuild would run around $300-$400 so I was wondering if the motor just had a manual lock on it so I could put it up for transport. I see that it has a bracket /bolt combo where the motor slides back in forth in, but I didnt see anyway to lock it up.

Home depot sells a high-tech device called a two-by-four. When combined with rope it makes an absolutely awesome way to lock your engine into a raised position.

and - by the way - it should cost you well under $200 to make that thing run and last like new. $300 is just too much for an '88 50HP unless the magnets are broken and the threads all stripped out.

I tried using a 2x4 without a rope, but it didn't stay put. What's the rope for? Also- is there a kit I can buy or a place I can send my tilt motor? It's a Prestolite and I thought that they were very hard to get ANY parts for.

The rope keeps engine pulled down tight against board while also strapping board in place.

It's not so much that Prestolite parts are rare - they are just spread out all over creation and it takes forever to track them down. Is it just the motor? Then $300 doesn't sound right at all. A 2w motor rebuild should be more like $80ish.

Any good dealer Force/Mercury can get the parts to replace the PTT to manual.
Try Florida Boat Sales in Pasadena Md.They used to have all kinds of Force/Chrysler parts.
There are salvage places that sell the parts.Valley Boat parts in Prudenville,Mi. Shoud have what you need.J

My 89 Force came with a steel support that fits into the manual trim slots. I use it all the time for transportation and storage so the hydraulics don't take the load. I am sure if you asked down at your local boat shop they can get one cheep.
