Took in my 14 ft cc with an 1983 500 on it for a tune up as i could not get it idling well. I had previously done a carb and fuel pump rebuild, impeller replacement and checked compression which was good. Got it peeing water good but could not get it to run smooth and would not idle at all. Heres what the shop came back with, Carb cleaning/rebuild needed (i didn't soak carb bodies which i think i should have), lower unit serviced, bad powerpack. $750 for parts and labor.
I was expecting i would been in for at least $400 but i wasn't anticipating a bad power pack. They said they were running it temporarily and powerpack started to smoke and insulation was melted. They said the price for the power pack itself is $245.
Does $750 sound in line for these parts and labor or am i getting screwed on parts markups and such?
