Hey guys, I just wanted to make sure I'm not wasting any money here. I have a decent amount of extra time on my hands and I'm looking for a project to keep me busy. I don't know much about the boat yet except what's in the ad and I emailed him and asked how the transom is. He said it is really good. Anyway here is the ad. I'm going to go look at it today in a few hours and he said he's going to do a few things to make it run tomorrow (charge battery connect fuel lines etc). If its running tomorrow I figured I'd buy it. Anyway here's the ad. I got him to go down to $130.

Looks decent to me. I paid 800 for my 68 Sportsman and I put about 3 to 4 hundred into it with parts.

You can tow it and it probably runs and has actual parts?

I see 10 times that amount in parts if you decide to part it out. I can see ebay items galore :)

Look up titling in Texas, the state requires separate titles for Boat and Engine (if outboard) and Trailer. It looks like a fun bunch of stuff to buy and tinker with, but look up what it would take to actually get it registered so you could use it on public lakes. Even selling the engine in Texas will require the new owner to reTitle it. Just sayin', know what you are getting into outside of the work the boat requires.

Agreed you can get into a title nightmare.......call TPWD and tell them what you are doing and they will tell you what paperwork you need bill of sale is not gonna get it done.

Now to sell the motor for parts dump the boat and make a flat bed out of the trailer.....depending on the cost of dumping the boat I think you could double your money on the deal.......in fact if you do not take it let me know I might run over and get it.....if the wheels and tires are good

Make sure you get paper work or its a parts only boat and with out the paper work the trailer is scrap.

Re: Is this a good buy?

IF, and that is an IF, the motor ONLY needs a waterpump and a prop, that alone is worth well over the $130. I always hate it when I read through craigslists ads that say a motor "only needs this one part and it will be perfect". I just find it hard to believe that someone in this case wouldn't have scrapped everything but the motor, and put a pump in and a prop on it and sold it for 10x what he is asking.
