2001 14 foot Caribe with steering console. Seller is only selling the boat by itself without engine or trailer. The hypalon tubes have a few patches but hold air for $850. Any thoughts about Caribe? Is it worth retubing it?

If tubes are ok except few patches, why retube ? it's expensive. If general rib is in good working condition, not a bad asked price, depends on how much you want to pay, or make him an offer..

The seller felt like the price was so good that i could retube it if i wanted and still come out ahead. He said they hold air just fine. I just wanted to see if that sounds right or not. Its in my price range.

You generally retube is tubes are excesively burnt out due to sun and rib living at a beach, marina for years. If fabric is so pourous that doesn't hold air, need to inflate endlessly or if fabric is delaminating. A 14 footer has costly hypalon tubes if being French more. Expect to pay at least 2 times asked price if retubing. Can you post some pics to have a look...

Well I just got back from the long drive. I have to admit the boat looks better in the pics than in person. The seller dropped to $650 after I complained about some of the patches. I figured it might last a few seasons and that console and steering cost more than the whole boat on defender.com . It looks like it could just use some paint for now. It originally had a 40HP. Do you think it could take a 50HP? Also, How much would this boat cost new? I cant seem to find pricing anywhere...

Perfect size for a 50 HP long shaft, deck looks much mint cond that hull which needs urgent paint work. That big patch under rear tube, looks like a huge abrassion issue. Does the price includes the trailer, if so, did you talked to owner with a machine gun ? A 14" hypalon rib & center console like that should cost new minimum $ 4 grand factory price...
