One of our stores is in process of a remodel. Half the store is sectioned off with plastic. I was working on a drink system that is being installed. On the other side of the plastic was several women and about 12 kids from newborn to 5 years old. Apparently they have several in school as well.

I was listening to them by no choice, but wished I didn't because it has really upset me. Well, here is what I heard.

The women were talking about how they had managed to have a "no work"
lifestyle via child support. It turns out that they had from 5 to 7 children each. Each child has a different father that pays support. Then to top it all off, they have a medical card, food stamps, and a nice assistance check. One woman even bragged about denying the fathers visitation. The older one of the bunch said that when her youngest is 12, she is going to start college so that she can get a good job for when the support stops when he turns 18. When they loaded up their kids in their vehicles, I noticed that each one was driving nice new model vans.

I think it is a scam and totally wrong using children for an income. At my age with my kids out of the house, I still say there needs to be a set fee for child support. Welfare only allows so much per child, and so child support should be based off that figure. It would be up to the father if he wanted to contribute more for his childrens needs.

I just wonder how many other women out there that is doing the same thing?
