Sorry for the lack of information, This switch was found inside my shift control. It's from a Johnson esl 1972 era I assume because it came with the motor. The end of the switch looks rough as if it was broken off.

Off hand I would say you probably can't shift gears. That is the shift toggle switch and it does appear to be broken.

That's what I figured, your right I can't shift but I tested the lowerU and the solenoids are fine. Do you know where I( can find one?

I was looking on ebay but there was only a couple of older ones and they said Not For Hydro Electric Shift. I might try up North more marinas there. Or maybe I get lucky and someone here has one? Thanks

The switches and control units are hard to find. I do have one but unfortunately I need it for my boat. Good luck with your search.

The 1971 version of the switch is still available direct from BRP online. It will work, but will not provide the start-in-neutral-only function. Part number 384042 - $300

I going to try to fix it, I know, mission impossible. I'll keep searching those little old one horse town marinas though till I find one. Thanks everybody for your help.
