Is this hole supposed to be here?!

I have a new-to-me 1994 Scout center console 17-2' fiberglass boat. There is a perfectly round hole, approximately 3/8" in diameter, drilled into the V of the bow about 6" below the water line. Probing the hole I can feel there is some sort of a wall aft of the hole, presumably to keep water from the bilge. The hole appears to extent straight up towards the deck. Any idea if this is "factory" or some accessory hole someone drilled long ago and never filled. What is its purpose if indeed it is factory drilled? Thank you!

Doesn't seem right to me . . . I was going to say an anchor locker drain, but I would expect that you could see that from the deck, and below the water line makes no sense to me

Does the boat have a live well? Or are you saying that this hole has a dead end?

If it is out of the water, post a picture.

Thanks to all. I did some more investigation and found it is, indeed, a drain hole for the anchor locker. It was filled with debris and mud from the top end so I completely missed it. I still would like to know why it is below the waterline. Perhaps when under way, with the bow up, it drains properly.

Thanks to all for your assistance.

If it is attached to a hose on the inside, and that hose is attached to the anchor locker drain, and the anchor locker drain is above the waterline, it WILL drain out, even if the thru-hull drain hole is under water.

The problem is that if that hose or its attachment ever fails, you'll then have an open hole in your boat below the water line.

That's why I don't like under waterline drain holes. My boat has five.

Perhaps when under way, with the bow up, it drains properly.

I'm not too sure about that. If this was the case, then when you stopped, the anchor well would just fill again, up to the waterline.
