Hello all,
I went to check the compression on a 1999 75hp and after letting the engine idle for about 10 minutes, I took all of the spark plugs out. However, when I did so, there was what looked like exhaust coming out of the spark plug holes. It stopped after a few seconds but it still was a little alarming. Is this normal or is something happening to the engine? Thanks I appreciate any help.

if you stop the engine, it would stop rotating, but it will stop moving because the compression in a cylinder. once the compression absorbs the torque, it may kick it back 1/2 of a stroke; when it does this, some exhaust stays behind because it wasnt fully expelled by the piston.

same can happen on the firing cylinder may have a gulp of fuel/air mix.

Ohh ok JT. Now that you mention it, it was only coming out of the middle cylinder. I was just trying to be safe than sorry. Thanks for the help
