Is Yamaha hiding something?

I recently bought a new bass rig with a Yamaha V-Max 150. The dealer invoice lists the motor as a 2008 model but in reality the motor was manufactured in 2006. Yamaha and Mercury no longer use model year designation on their motors (as of 2005), but my complaint to Yamaha, the boat manufaturer that installed the motor and the dealer is if I were to sell this motor today, I would have to sell it as a 2006 model. I guess what I'm trying to find out is if anyone else has encountered this dilemma.

Re: Is Yamaha hiding something?

I am 47, I have been doing this gig roughly 30 years. in my life mercury as well as mercruiser has always used seriel numbers and not year model. works better for our industry.
the date of manufacture is on the stbd transom bracket on late model yamahas since about 2002 or so.
double check your invoice.
there has been much controversy about the switch, Yamahas website address's it as well.
by running seriel production runs instead of year model runs it just makes it easier to track and service as well as service liurature.
if there are no changes for several years the manual and procedures and product features stay the same, if there is a mid year change they simply break the seriel number run and start another.
but on the yamaha the date of manufacture is on a tag on the stbd transom bracket, has been for years.

not really a dilemma...your bill of sale date will show the boat/motor's in service date and as Yamaha explained to us dealers- a new motor is a new motor
