Is Yamaha really buying Lund Boat Company?

Received a phone call from a dealer who was following up on a boat brochure request this evening and told them I currently own a Lund with a Yamaha outboard. He then proceeded to ask me if Yamaha had bought Lund because he had heard they did.
My response was 'I don't know,...haven't heard anything about that!" I don't know if that is rumor,or if there's any truth to it as i have heard it for the first time today. I haven't kept on on marine industry news lately due to my activities in the
amateur radio hobby during the winter months. Be nice if they did,though,...then us Yamaha guys can have the motor we want! Anyone care to weigh in on this?

No new of it on the nmma website, and Lund is still listed as being owned by Brunswick on the brunswick website.

I would think the Yamaha dealer network would have notified their dealers of such an acquisition.

It would be a new venture for Yami, I would be suprised given the current economy. I think Brunsick would dump Crestliner before Lund. You never can tell though. SEC filings don't reveal a current intent.

Maybe owning the boat manufacturer is good business for Yamaha....that way they sell a packaged rig with boat, trailer and motor(Yamaha of course), and at competitive prices. And with the boat business having been off for the last couple of years, probably some boat manufacturers willing to sell their businesses relatively cheap. G3 is mostly Bass type boats and Lund makes bigger water/deeper draft/colder weather fishing boats, so different markets. Maybe next for Yamaha would be a skiff Mfr. like Carolina Skiffs?;)

That's one of the biggest contributors to OMC's demise. Granted, Yamaha has much deeper pockets than OMC ever did but it's still risky.

Some, not many but some, potential customers will be turned off.
