Re: it happened so fast

FSHKPR, Ouch, that sucks. When I was in high school a kid was tapping on the nut on the end of the brake lathe while it was running and the nut threaded itself onto his ring. He hit the kill button but by the time it stopped it had already bent his finger back and threaded that inside along with his ring. They had to dissemble the machine with him attached to get him to the hospital.

Good thing you shut the drill press off BEFORE it grabbed your shirt. Happy healing. Maybe you could hunt with a big box and a stick to prop it up. Put some clover under the box, when the deer come to eat WHAMO! pull the stick out. ;)
Hey...it worked on birds when we were kids :D

Dave

As said before lucky to get off with just a broke flipper. Could have been much, much worse. Machines created to cut/drill/bend/shear metal don't bat an eye lash at skin and bones. 18+ years in a machine shop with only 4 stitches for penalty points. I consider my self extremely lucky. Hope your recovery goes well. And hay, that cast for a rifle rest :) ………… may just work. :D

owwwey! Hope you heal quickly, and don't give up on the hunting season too quickly - where there is a will, there is a way. And you heal quicker doing the things you love to do, so get out there and fish and hunt!

FSHKPR, suck it up and get out there and do your red-neck duty! You must get back to the hunt or PETA notches another victory, another hunter out of the woods.

And, boy did I grimace when I read your post. I've had my arms twisted up with a 1hp hand drill when the bit grabbed; before I could let go it felt like my arms with pull out.

As several have posted, I (most have scars if around machinery long enough) have a scar across my palm; no little finger as the blade, table saw, just keep going deeper.

Good luck; keep hunting! And let us know what the doc says.

Re: it happened so fast

hey thanks for all the kind words, lot more sympthy than i got at work today.i can tell ya that!! doctor put in cast. says 4 weeks or more. also asks when i broke it last time, said i never did. he said yeah i think you did xray shows an old break. dont remember that at all.
i guess i should clarify tho that i am not a deer hunter, just small game, grouse, ducks, ect. i supose i could use my buddys 22 pistol and still go squirell hunting, who ever said something about the typing and spelling skills, typing still not to bad but always was terrible speller.

actually there was not alot of pain, i just kinda knew it was broke because i heard the popping sound. did not hurt as much as i thought a broke arm would hurt.

Lark i was drilling at medium speed, and was using a cutting fluid. no pilot hole first just straight to 5/8. funny thing is i was on the last of 8 pieces, figures huh?
well thanks again everyone!
