Thanks to the generous and knowledgeable people here on this forum, my 1993 Force 150 outboard roared back to life this morning. I bought it last winter as a disassembled project with several known problems. Here's a list of the major jobs I've done on it:
  • Honed damaged cylinder wall
  • Replaced damaged piston, rings and connecting rod bearings
  • Had head milled
  • Replaced head, head gasket and spark plugs
  • Rebuilt three carburetors
  • Rebuilt two fuel pumps
  • Replaced all fuel lines and filter
  • Replaced thermostat and gasket
  • Installed fitting for water pressure gauge
  • Rebuilt water pump
  • Drained and refilled lower unit oil
  • Mounted the engine on a new transom and connected all the control cables and wiring

It will be a while before it is fully broken in and ready for action, but here it is during its initial test run.

BTW, the cloud of smoke that hung over it while it ran confirmed the 25:1 oil mix several of you suggested.

P.S. I almost forgot rebuilding the tilt/trim cylinders.

Great job! I think you've just about covered the most common things that a person might encounter when dealing with an older Force motor. Maintain it properly and it should run fine for many years.

Glad it's ALIVE!!!!
A 150 on a toon.
You wanna be the first one to the tie up.
Just keep an eye on the carbs and the fuel mix.
The fuel recirc system should have been one of the things on your list.
