As of Saturday at 7pm, its been 3 weeks without any cigaretts!:}8) That is the longest I have ever gone in 30 years of trying to quit. I think it is a done deal this time. I actually feel great, don't get out of breath as easy and they (the smokes) ain't on my mind near as much!

Now I just got to start watching me weight! 3 weeks and 14 pounds. Never in my life I have ever gained that much weight in such short time.

Okay now, how about the others that said they would quit too? how are you doing?

Great news.
It is time to reward yourself.Go buy yourself something you always wanted but denied yourself and call it quitter's reward!!
If you can, make yourself a piggy bank and deposit what would have been your smokers money into the pig,so you can regularly reward yourself for quitting. This turns it from a denial into a forward looking fun thing.
Keep it up!

Give it a year and you'll feel 20 years younger.
My wife and I are 7 years without. I don't know if it was all the extra money we saved or the pride we felt in quitting or how we felt physically but our lifestye really improved after then.
Although you have the worst behind you there will be some substantial challenges ahead. As time goes by the urges will be strong but will be farther apart and shorter in duration. Just remind yourself that they will pass faster than finding a buddy to bum a smoke from.
Since you found all that tremendous will power, it should be easy now to take a walk ( or ride a bike)around the neighborhood after dinner.
It'll occupy your time and it'll get you in the frame of mind to start on the weight control.
Think of it like you are in training to save your own life....Rocky Mayflower.

Good job and good luck you are really whippin' the devil now.

Fantastic!! Let's see $4.50 a pack x 21 days is almost $95.

I best food tastes different. If you like spicy food..... try it soon and be prepared ...... it will be even spicier.

Keep going!

Re: Its getting easier!

I was wondering how you were getting on SS.
I have managed to stop the weight gain, eating the right food, chewing gum, fruit & walking I'm starting to lose a few pounds now.
I have been putting the money I save away in the bank by the time I go to Australia at christmas I will have an extra £550 spending money.
I still find it hard to have a beer without a smoke and I have found myself getting short tempered a few times but the urge soon passes. I am begining to find the smell of smoke on me and my clothes after I come home from the pub quite repulsive. The good news on that front is that a new law banning smoking in public places comes into force in the new year so all pubs will be smoke free.
Stay with it, only a few more days and you'll have a full month under your belt.

Good for you. I put on 20lbs. or so:$ but gaining weight has been more fun than smoking. I may get a bike to lose weight.
Skinnywater, should I get a Harley or what?8)

Great job SS, take some of the money that you are saving and join a gym, not only will it be healthy, you also will feel even better in the long run. Believe me it works, even for people like me who smoked two packs a day.

Re: Its getting easier!

Sad part of this whole quitting thing is that I can't understand why I didn't do it sooner. Thanks for the support on the board. I'm getting more support than I ever thought I would from my friends and workers.

Now to get the Mrs off the things. Her work place is going totally smokeless. All the property that the hospital owns will be smoke free by the first of the year. They won't even let you smoke in your car and also there is talk of nicotine tests for the employees. I feel that is a bit too far as it denotes what you can and can't do in your own time. I told my wife not to be too upset because she should have quit by then. Yeah,,,,,,that went over like a lead ballon....:/
