Nice deal on the motor and parts. Having two outdrives might be convenient. Run one while you fix up the other as a spare.

Good score, jf. You got a donor without the need to cut up a glasser. LOL From the looks of it you'll have some extra parts to sell and bring you back under a grand. Trim pumps/parts can bring some nice change, parts off the old 165 too. And a free dog too, what a deal!!!

Excellent deal @ $400.00
Just the Outdrive (even though it needs seals, I would pressure test it before just to be sure) is a $400.00 item.
Everything else is icing on the cake.

Well guys...here's an update.

65 degrees here in upstate NY...it's Starcraft weather!

Spent most of the day on the boat and 'new engine'

See how the new engine runs ----> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=92hw79KxY6Q

I also rigged up a unique way to remove the bad engine from the boat....It worked perfectly..

anyway the engine is out...and I've started the transom removal process.

I hope tomorrow is as productive as today...if it is...i may have the transom out. That would be AWESOME!

Jf, the new motor sounds great. You figured out how to get a hoist high enough for the old motor to clear the transom. Is that a deuce and a half? Good idea.

Smooth running motor there! Glad you got a good deal on it and can have a back up OD.
Really like your videos, too!

Congratulations on the Islander. My two cents, I would stick with the I/O setup. http://www.dougrussell.com/ has re manufactured short blocks or complete preowned / certified motors. They took care of me on an I4 for my boat and I am sure they will do the same for you with your I6. Even if the transom is shot, the transom assembly should be in good shape and usable. The drive can be replaced with a new one for $1300 from sterndrive engineering. Anyway, have fun with the rebuild.

Nice boat, I watched yout utube video. My transon had bad spots in the same location as yours and I found the top of the transom was bad also. yet from the inside it looked and felt good. check it out close.I ended up changing the transon .Good luck
