Just curious if any other Iboaters are also Tennessee Squires?

Who are the Tennessee Squires?

For the most comprehensive answer to this question, I refer to the official letter
sent to me upon my acceptance into this world-famous association:

'The Tennessee Squire Association was formed many years ago to honor special
friends of our distillery and our world-famous Tennessee Whiskey. Many prominent
business and entertainment professionals are included among our members...'
'....As a Squire, you become an "owner" of an unrecorded plot of land at the distillery
and an honorary citizen of Moore County.'

Hey, golly, Ken and I were just joking around. I had my smiley face on. Gee, everybody treats me so nice and never baits or insults me. Your interference between Ken and I was certainly appropriate and I am so sorry you read what reflects your own perosnality into an otherwise harmless remark. I am going to ask the doctor to adjust my medication so that your attitude may be changed. What time is it where you are? My work requires that I send large files and the dialup is a little quicker late at night. Pleasant dreams.

Huuuuuuuuuuhumph, was that deep enough? The medication has kicked in and I am feeling much better. ;) :D I was surprised that ken did not respond further. I will kick this back up to the top and maybe we can have some civil discourse. Makers Mark is still the bourbon to beat as far as I am concerned, but they are a very low profile company and hopefully they will stay that way. I was interested in hearing more about the Tennessee Squires. oops forgot the gremlins

I like Makers too, but Makers is bourbon, and Jack is not - it's straight whisky.

So, The Tennessee Squires is really just a JD marketing thing, but if you get nominated by a Squire to become a Squire, they send you a "unrecorded deed" to a plot of land at the distillery - it amounts to a couple of square inches. :)

If you visit, they will take you out to see your plot.

Every once in a while, they send out a letter saying something like "We're having a fox hunt - you're welcome to come - but if you can't make it, we just wanted to make sure it's ok that we use your land..."

It's good for a few smiles.

Makers has a similar thing where they will make you a Makers Ambassador. Here's the info: http://www.makersmark.com/Ambassador/AmbInfo.aspx

Well, there is civil discourse on the dock after all.
Terminology makes all the difference in the world. I can see that your source authority as to what Jack Daniels makes and my understanding is divergent. Straight or Blended, is it the process or the taste that sells the whiskey? What are the qualifications for being a Tennessee Squire. Aside from buying an undeeded plot? Excuse me Unrecorded. Is there a difference?

Ok I am confussed......I thought Bourbon was a form of Whiskey. Is it blended that differently???

There are strict laws governing just what a Bourbon must be to be labeled as such. For example, at least 51 percent of the grain used in making the whiskey must be corn (most distillers use 65 to 75 percent corn). Bourbon must be aged for a minimum of two years in new, white oak barrels that have been charred. Nothing can be added at bottling to enhance flavor, add sweetness or alter color.
At my house, we go through a lot Of Early Times which is a whiskey, not a bourbon. I can't afford the good stuff! I do enjoy Buffalo Trace and Woodford Reserve :) :)

All hawks are birds, but not all birds are hawks.

All bourbon is whiskey, but. . . .etc.

What seperates bourbon from sour mash from Scotch from Irish are the selection of grains, the methods of brewing and distillation, where and how long aged, and other secrets of the maker. "Blended" usually means that two or more whiskeys of slightly differing character are mixed to emphasise the strengths of all and minimize the shortcomings.

My autistic/savant grandson has a passion about correctness of terminology and accuracy of word selection. At 18, he has learned to forgive others for not meeting the standards he sets for himself, but still addresses me as "maternal grandfather".

Whiskey drinkers will often claim that it is taste alone that makes their choice, but I suggest that cache, price, marketing and reputation make a lot of difference.

Re: Jack Daniels Tennessee Squire

About 25 years ago I sent for a free offer of so and so many JD labels from a classified ad in the back of some magazine.

I got the labels, and a bit later they even sent me a set of 6 Tennesse Squire drinking glasses, and a bunch of other stuff over the years. I got my "deed" & get letters a couple times a year. As said, good for a laugh. I've been getting a JD calendar every year too.

I wondered how they could afford to send me all that stuff free. It took a while but I finally figured out (I was young then!) it was all JD advertising. Since I don't drink whiskey, I always thought it was funny how much they've invested in me over these 25 years. I should be a stock owner by now.

Isn't it clever how the different conversations bring the same conclusions. Even though you never bought a drop of the product you helped pay the advertisers. Sort of like the Marlboro man who didn't even smoke. Some people see the message but are just not struck by the point. Stupid is as stupid does.
This is my take on the bourbon whiskey controversy, other opinions not withstanding. Bourbon is esclusively a Kentucky Whisky. In other words it is Old Number 7 made in Kentucky.
I was setting in Miami poorin' blended whisky down, when this old gray black gentleman was cleaning up the lounge. Univited he sat down and emptied out his mind - on Old Dogs and Children and Watermelon Wine.....mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Not sure I see what you mean, as far as I'm concerned, they paid me!
