hey everyone i have a Javelin 17 foot with a 1999 jonhson 90hp on it. right now i am running a 14x19 on at 4800rpms. my manuel say that the rpm range is from 4500 to 5500. all i use my boat for in just fishing.
i ran across some props this past week. one is a 14x17 and the other is a 13x19. i put the 14x 17 on and took my boat out to the lake. the 14x17 didnt change my rpms much it just changed form 4800 to 5100 at wto. does anyone have any idea on how much the 13x19 would change my rpms? or should i stay with the 14x17? trying to get rpm to at least 5300 at wto thanks for your time and help!!
ps here is the part #
14x17 (176214)
13x19 (390896)

Re: Javelin 17 foot

Welcome to iboats.
It would help to have your speed at wot. Also would help to know what the Javelin is and how much it weighs. When you tell us you have a Javelin 17 its like one of us telling you I have a black Subaru and expecting you tell me how it would perform. It is pretty obvious that the 17" appears to be a better prop match. It should improve your hole shot. You could check your setup, the vertical height of the motor. The antivent(cavitation) plate just above the prop even with the bottom is a starting point.
Raise the motor a hole at a time to a point just before venting(cavitation) becomes a problem.Read the stickies at the top of the page and check the helps at the prop store. It should help you understand prop selection a little better.
You could have a good prop shop remove a little pitch or remove some cup if it has any.Your motor will be happier at the higher rpm.A 300 rpm change is in the ball park
for a 2 inch pitch change.See if you can get us more details.

Yep, your motor will live longer if it's set up for 5500, at least. You should target 5800 with an average load. I'd take a close look at the set up, I'd bet you can pick up a few rpms with just that. Those boats respond well to bow lifting props.
