Whats the difference between me, advertising a part for sale and your tolerence of someone CONTINUALLY posting a offsite WEBPAGE that sells parts. THERE IS NONE... Delete this one if you will just like you did the other.Id like a answer, if youd be so kind. If I put my parts on a web page and give a link to it does that somehow make it "legal"..

Hi Rod....

Iboats pays the bills for this web site. This web site is free to you and any other person who wish to help others that want to know more about there watercraft and get the best care for them. Iboats is also a store for boaters. They sell and advertise their products for sale just as your employer does. Do you think your employer would allow his competion to come into his marina and let them advertise boat and engine parts? I don't think so.

To that end, we ask that selling and solicitaiton to sell be kept at nil. There is a boating classifieds page you can go to if there is something you feel can help another boater.

We appreciate your joining the forums and from the posts you have contributed, you seem to know your way around boats and what makes them tick.

We hope you can appreciate our positon on your question.

With all due respect I think you missed Rod's point. Correct me if I am wrong Rod, but what you're asking, is why is it ok to give a link to a page where something is being sold (off iBoats) and not ok to simply say something like "I have one for you, call me or email me, etc.)

If Rod had said to that guy, "hey, click the link below for manifolds" it would not be censored, but if he said "I have one, email me" it is censored.

Do I understand the issue correctly Rod?

Thats my point exactly. Thanks Ralph. I understand the no sale policy, so I dont understand why "Heres my webpage " with aftermarket parts for sale is tolerated.

We don't deliberately allow any posting that competes with iboats business or in any other way is contrary to iboats interests, Rod.

That one or two slip by us is no justification for your defiant attitude, and gives you no license to violate our policy.

If you see a post that violates our policy and we don't, please bring it to our attention.

Thanks for your cooperation. :)

Humm so a suggestion for this is can I boats put up a swap shop where we can post and sell small items I know there was discussion re this that way we have a source fro the small parts and I boats can charge a small fee related as a percentage of the asking price

I am sorry friends, I have to agree with Admin here, being a retired business man, that was in the retail business, and appreciating very much the trouble and expense that Iboats goes to to give us what we have here. What you are looking for already exsist, in ebay, which I have sold a lot of items through. Also Iboats offers their classifieds (which I am guilty of ignoring, and must check it out in the future). Plus there is a way for you to operate, within the rules of the forum. If a person post a thread, whereas they are having a problem, and you have a part you think would fix their problem, you can answer their post with a request merely stating "Hey ******(username) please email me, and then you can answer their email with the advise that you have a part, that could solve their problem. :D :D

Thanks for the reply JB, Ill have to admit I sometimes have that attitude, but not always. Agreed some may slip by you and other mods.Just didnt understand the double standard and if you say there isnt one OK. If I see a problem ill bring it to your attention. I think the swap shop ideas great, but its one of those things that you cant hold the host of the swap shop liable for your dealings with another person.

Re: JBor MODS. Id like a answer to a question

The idea of a swap-shop/flea market has come up many times and been seriously looked at by iboats management.

Here's the problem: iboats is a retailer of many marine products. It would be foolish to sponsor a site that offered competition.

Who would be willing to judge each submission as to whether it competed or not? Who would be willing to really disappoint a lot of people? Anyone who has ever had to make similar decisions wouldn't touch it.

It would be no-win for iboats and no-win for our Bulletin Board.

There are unsponsored sites that welcome swaps and sales from private individuals, not to mention Ebay.

We are a technical information and assistance site, the best in the universe, sponsored by a great retailer. Allowing commercial messages, even on a private individual basis would not fit.

Thank you all for your understanding. :)

I have a related question...

Since you can't possibly catch ALL posts, is there some method of contacting a moderator directly.

Case in point...
I'm tired of seeing references to
Napier[ www.napierenvironmental.com ]originally formulated eco-friendly non toxic coatings removers for the marine and aircraft industry
from #30689

Getting off my soap-box...

Ed,

I have looked at that site more than once.

Although one could consider it a solicitation, it really doesn't fit that mold. It is more of an informational site explaining products that are availble to solve a problem and are considered to be environmentally friendly.

The site does not offer a method to purchase the products.

Creating a new thread is the easiest way to catch our attention, particularly in the Nothing To Do With Boats section.

Thanks.
