I thought a role of TV was to entertain...not necessarily to give us good role models. Guess I am ignorant!

I agree. Wearing pants down around your knees is much worst than my generation. There isn't anything wrong with having hair down to your belt, inserts sewn into the bottoms of your bell bottoms to make them bigger, a shocking pink shirt open to your belly button, a beard by age 16 and being stoned on whatever 7 days a week.

Andy Griffin would have been proud.

LOL, how true. Every generation of kids, is worse than the last. Just ask our parents.

Sheriff Andy had it easy. He just let Granny Clampitt, on the West Coast, handle the "hippies". ;)

I apologise to all.

I tried to start a conversation about character development in scriptwriting for TV and I get what must be inevitable: TV sux vs. turn it off; really intellectually stimulating. :(

Well, JB, if you want character development, why don't you write some scripts and submit them? I think there is plenty of good tv on, and if you suspend belief, it's REALLY fun. Why would you want to watch a show that has people who act just like everyone you meet in real life? How boring would that be?

It's the same on every forum I've ever been on. The "I don't own a TV" types comes out of the woodwork.

Re: Jerks on TV. Whatsup?

I'm a big fan of NCIS. I even like the new one, NCIS Los Angeles. Watch the reruns on A&E. There are some I've seen too many times so I don't bother any more.

Kind of a funny story but maybe a downer for some, so beware. One of my sisters died of cancer last summer and the last time I talked to her I asked what she was up to. She said she was watching NCIS and said how much she loved it. I said, "I'm watching NCIS, too. Which one?" Turned out we were both watching the same one, me in Iowa and her in Maine. I said I'd get off so she could watch but she said she'd already seen this one several times so she knew what would happen. I had also seen it several times so we stayed on the phone for the next 45 minutes yacking about what would happen next. More darn fun.

I don't have cable, I watch the simpsons, Gordon Ramsey, then maybe a bit on the slavery channel (PBS) and turn it off.
Theres plenty of high quality BBC stuff free on Youtube, just add the 10 minute segments to your list and it will play it continuously.

I see TV shows as entertainment only. Scripted shows are fantasy; and reality shows have very little to do with reality.

Mankind has advanced mainly through fantasy, leading to innovation; and from the beginning of time, reality was never meant to be taken seriously; it's nature's secret joke.
