Re: jetski thief shot dead.

I just can?t seem to find any sympathy for these thieves?s who elect to come and steal from decent people. I will always use the "shoot and ask questions after I know my family is safe". All this garbage about armed/unarmed, deaf, intent?.means nothing. And I won?t take a guess, I?ll shoot, because I won?t ever let my life be in the hands of a scum bag, waiting to see how scummy he/she is. That isn?t how it works, and that isn?t how I roll.

I love the deer hunting example, here in Michigan, we have 700,000 hunters in the woods for 14 days during ?GUN? season. That means there are 700,000 guns at home 50 weeks out of the year, better think twice before you decide to steal or hurt anyone around here. I keep several loaded weapons in my house, and they are all ready to go. No gun locks or safes, I also don?t have kids around either.

And the head shot is just part of using a shot gun, all you need to do is point it, there really isn?t much aiming done when using a shot gun.

You ought to take a combat shotgun class sometime. You'll be amazed at how often you miss under even the minimal stress imposed in a class. In the real world, with someone possibly about to shoot you if you don't shoot them first, it's much worse.

The shot pattern from a short-barreled, cylinder-bore combat shotgun doesn't even begin to spread at less than about 10 feet from the muzzle (it's still in the wad), then it spreads at approximately 1" per yard. At 25 yards, 9 pellet 00 buck is about 18" in diameter. Hunting shotguns with longer barrels and tighter chokes (modified, full, etc) have a tighter shot pattern.

90% of all armed encounters take place at less than 7 yards. At that distance, your shotgun pattern will be 3 or 4 inches wide at the most.

While it's slightly better than a single bullet, at typical home defense ranges you'll have as much luck pointing a shotgun at someone as you will a pistol.
