Hi I have to replace my steering cable, which mean lifting the motor off back of the boat, how do you rig up an engine lift eye from the motor, this engine does not have any hooks on it for lifting, can I attached a chain to the flywheel using bolts then lift the motor, ( I have a come along hooked up) just need to get the engine set-up to lift. Thanks for any ideas!

Re: Johnson 110 engine eye lift

Thanks for reply, My friend tells me that it can be lifted by using a chain attached to the flywheel with harden bolts screwed into the threads! Can this be done, how come this motor does not have a lift eye on it?

Try this. Looking at the back of the motor, loosen but do not remove the top left mount bolt. Remove the other mount bolts. Now with the leg down, pivot the motor on the the bolt left installed by pulling the leg up sideways and you should get enough clearance to install the tube thru the motor. Works for me.
The lifting eye, dealer bought item, probably screws into the center of the flywheel. You will see the female threads there. fred

Thanks for the reply but I wanted to remove the motor off the boat for the winter as I wanted to replace the cable in the spring, I have a home made engine stand to put motor on for winter, the top of the flywheel has 3 threaded holes , I wanted to put a bolt into two of the hole with a chain attached to it then lift the motor off the boat and put on the stand, just worried if this is a ok to do it this way!

My '98 150HP johnny has brackets bolted to the block that are for lifting the motor. Do you have the brackets as well?

I use my three bolt universal puller with a lift ring screwed in where the center (puller) bolt would go.

Well I did this over twenty five years ago,but I think I had the right thread bolt, and had a local welding shop put the lift ring on.
