Fourth cylinder is being flooded with water due the crack in the aluminum casing. I've included a picture, is there any quick fix to this? I don't have the funds for a new engine or a new powerhead. Thanks

C:\Documents and Settings\duck\Desktop\crack in aluminum casing.bmp

seapro - We can't access your hard drive to see the picture. You must post your picture on one of the web sites that specialize in this - they are free. I use photobucket. Most likely it can be fixed.

Re: Johnson 110 has cracked aluminum

SoLittle-I fixed the crack in the Aluminum casing with JB weld. It ran great off the hose but when I deployed it in the water it stalled and coughed. Brought it back home and took the covers off the cylinders and noticed a milky white substance in #4,1,3 cylinder (#2 was fully extended so I couldn't tell if it was the same). I'm pretty sure this due to saltwater penetrating into the cylinder. Where is it coming from since it runs fine onshore? Thanks

Seapro,
Once an aluminum motor cracks the crack will widen and contract as the motor warms and cools. Therefore, no glue is going to be able to keep up with it. Welding is the acceptible answer but a lot depends on how accessible the crack is and how extensive it is.
Sometimes the only way out is replacing the part or getting a new powerhead.

Find a good TIG welder to do the repair. They charge a lot of $$ but the results are usually good.
