Re: johnson 115 v4 engine with special shaft

The control box does not look like anything I've seen from OMC. The throttle lever appears to have trim botton's That was not available to the general public back then. Does that gearcase have reverse? The prop is counter-rotating, or counter clockwise as any forward only competition gearcase. The engine, and all component's look like any stock 100HP. The transom, and engine mount is a direct bolt up. The 100 HP was not. The engine has an alternator. That sound's different for a compition engine. Asked over at Scream & Fly to look at this post.

The 100 HP engine back then had a right, and left transom bracket. These were bolted to the transon. The engine was lifted, then lowered into these brackets'. There was a heavy bolt at the top of the bracket that came in from the side. They held the engine down, and in place. In 1973 they went to the direct mount bracket as still used today. The engine's today still use a alternator, it just is not as bulky as back then. Many outboard racing engine's don't use it as it takes power from the engine to work, plus in most case's it is not needed.

It was a better mounting with tilt pin steering as available to the general public. The alternator shown in the photo's was standard on the 100 HP engine. There is a heavy wound copper ring under the flywheel. The rectifiing diode's are under the black plastic cover mounted on the power head. The engine's today still use the copper stator ring under the flywheel.
