Re: Johnson 115 wire harness

Depends on the engine you are buying and the wiring harness on your boat/engine. I suggest NOT using the adapter harness to make your baot/harness fit. If you use correct harness for new engine, you will solve most of the problems with the gauges and electrial that you will have later.

Thanks for the reply Clanton.Excuse my stupidity but i don't Quite undrstand what you mean.If they don't match do you mean I need a new harness on the new motor or the old one? Would i get this from a Johnson dealer?

Bill, he simply means get a new harness for your new motor, instead of trying to adapt the old harness to it. Leave the old harness with the old motor and buy a new one from your dealer for the new motor...

Maby. Cant tell, not knowing what is on your boat. If the new engine is a 2 stroke and the old engine used System Check tach without an adapter, everthing should work fine. If an adapter harness was used you will find a large red connector in the engine pan or close to the engine control. In some cases the connector may be black. Johnson/Evinrude change there wiring harness sometime in 1995, then made adapters for new engine old control, new control old engine. Then some boat builders made there own control harnesses. I would ask the dealer for harness setup with no adapters, and have him check harness in boat. You may not need anything.
