1985 Johnson 120 J120TLCOS, not only are the float bowls warped but on top of each carb where they mount to the throttle body I see gaps...I heard BRP sells replacement aluminum bowls but what do I do about the plastic carb body being warped? But all new plastic carbs so it will do it again??
I did read where one suggested to use gray marine TeX to seal the gaps.....

Are there other years that were aluminum carb bodies that would fit mine?

Thanks....

P.s very upset cause just spent $135. On carb rebuild kits, new plugs an had lower unit rebuilt, new steering kit installed an went out to go fishing today with 4 buddies an couldn't leave the dock....

There are no aluminum carb parts for these carbs available. The aluminum carb bowls were for the cross flow motors.

A BRP DLR should have the plastic carb bowls.

So did the motor not run at all ???-----------You can try with some medium emery cloth on a piece of glass to see if you can get rid of the warpage to some degree.

Chances are even if you get new plastic it will happen again. I replaced mine with plastic the first time and they didn't even make it 2 years before starting again. Luckily I was able to find a salvaged older motor that had aluminum blows replaced the jets to match my OEM setup and never worried about it again. But if you cannot find or get bowls for yours (a friend of mine bad the same problem) we went and purchased a 12"x12" piece of gas resistant rubber they sell it for cutting and making your own gaskets and just made out own. I believe he used 1/8" material. We also took a piece of flat stainless and a heavy weight heated it to about 130 degrees for a few mins and let the heat and weight kinda flatten it out that seems to still e working to this day. He's also going on about 2years.

Ah I wasn't thinking when I read that. I read it as you couldn't order aluminum not that its not a possibility.

I picked up a 1992 Evinrude 120 big block looper an looked online an the carbs are a different part number than my 1985 but just cause they are different part number does that mean they won't work?

Only thing I see different is the side metal plates are perfect square on the 92 120 an mine has some curves an also on the bottom of the carb assembly (not float bowl) there is no tiny brass outlet, there is a passage there on the 92 motor but no brass outlet like mine.... Anyone please help if you can see these working... An I tried bolting on on the throttle body an mounted fine.

They are a bowl restriction jet that will richen up the midrange (3200-4000rpm). The older carbs was bad about running lean at this rpm as timing was a max and throttle was only about 2/3 open. I recomend they be transfered to the newer carbs....

Either way there is still a passage way from what I can see just the 1985 120 has the brass an the newer 1992 120 doesn't....

Still remove and install "restrictor jet" on newer carbs, the race guys drill and tap these 1/4-20 and use different sizes to richen up midrange. I install them on all my customers V-6 rebuilds and my V-8 carbs on my 250hp V-6...
