So far, you only know that one sparkplug is firing. I suggest finding out if the other three plugs fire. An adjustable sparkplug tester cost around ten bucks. A new rectifier costs around fifty bucks and may not solve the problem.

I warmed the motor up and checked for spark. When the motor is part way warm it has intermittent spark and once it is fully warm it sparks on just the number 1 cylinder.

This is how I'm seeing it, after checking all the connections,

A new rectifier at $50,

or $50 for instruments to check under the flywheel if the rectifier does not do the fix,

or $100 at a shop that will pin point the problem and probably pop the flywheel if that is necessary.

Me, I?d take it to the shop.

Except for gluing displaced magnets under the flywheel, anything else is easy to change out. If required buy the parts and replace yourself..

Re: Johnson 135 surging

I just got off the phone with one of my fathers friends who fixes boats on the side and has fixed several of our friends boats and he told me to bring the boat on Monday and he would fix it for me. Thanks for all the help!
