Hey there,

I have a really miserable problem with my "new" Johnson 140. It started with that a needle-bearing collapsed and the engine broke down. :( Well, now I have new bearings and so on but the engine won't ignite! I've changed the ignitionbox and I've measured the voltage and the functionality of the dead man's handle and it works properly. What could be wrong?? Is there any other switches that could be wrong? Anyone have any idea?

I would appreciate any ideas....going nuts soon!

i have a 87 140hp erude that was having similar problems a while back. after many checks and head scratching it turned out to be a bad ground from battery to the motor. since then ive come across a few more boats with this problem. check any and all connections for corrosion. sometimes the green crud will climb through the wire even under the insulation. good luck!

Ok, I'll do an research and see what I can find. When this all happened I was in the middle of a storm and the engine almost got water-drenched, maybe there is water or corrosion somewhere or this green "kladdimoj"...;-)

Thank you very much for your help!

I'm wondering about the ground from battery to the engine....when I turn the key it engages the starter as usual and it sounds normal, will this occur even though the ground-cable is bad or damaged...?

Just wondering...
