i have a 383 ranger with j140tlcte 3rd owner it has i think a j&e 19 p ss prop . factory wot specs is 4500 t0 5500 at wot it runs 5900 rpms .am i right to believe if i put like a 17 the wot rpms would come into factory specs and help the slow hole shot.:rolleyes:thank you for your help.

You probably need to verify the tach.Perhaps rent or borrow a shop tach.
Unfortunately if you decrease pitch to 17 it will increase rpm as much as 400 rpm.
Do you know your gear ratio? Your prop diameter will help tell the gear ratio. If you get us the wot rpm and gps speed we may be able figure if your tach seems close.

How big is the boat? How heavy? Do you have a pic of, or part# off your prop?

Like Sspike said I'd verify rpm's & gps mph for starters.

There are a myriad of props available for that motor. Assuming it's a bass boat you'll probly want something with alotta bow lift. A la Laser, or Raker, or Lightspeed to name a few.
