What are the symptoms of a power pack failure. I had a severe loss of power and when restarted sounded rough, smoked and would not get on plane?

Your symptoms do not provide enough info to diagnose the problem. Take a compression test, and put a timing light on all plugs to see if you have spark on all. Post back the results.
