I was thinken just take out all the seats and stuff, put a peice of ply wood over the cockpit area and drill like a 1 inch whole in the top and fill it with spry foam it could work... Maybe?

Lots of things will "work".

i bought a boat just like bondo's picture, to get the 135 merc, had a steel engine plate inside and out. when i removed the engine, the complete transom was cracked, in numerous places, and there was a permanent water line about 2 inches from the top of the splash well, i guess that's how it sat in the water.

like a lot have said how will it handle. Most likely you won't be able to control it with that much horsepower. Of course if you do put it together and get it on the water I doubt your insurance company will pay for any damage an accident with an over horsed boat might cause.

If its a semi V, that tells me it will have little if any deadrise at the transom. Which means when that thing is screaming at 60 mph, nothing will be in the water except the prop and maybe that little keel ridge along the bottom. Thats not really enough to keep positive control of the boat. But hey, if you do it, make sure you have a buddy who can take pics from another boat and post them here after the funeral so we can see.. :)

Aren't those called bass boats?

Seriously though, really dangerous idea imo. Could hurt/kill you or someone else.

Nah, true bass boats are pad bottom V hulls with moderate deadrise at the transom. Alans boat is a semi V, which means there is little deadrise at the transom, and the bottom is near flat except for a molded keel ridge that progresses forward into the V shape of the bow. I had a hull like this and I put an 85 horse Merc on it, and that boat was okay going straight, you just didn't want to try to turn while going fast. That little keel ridge on a flat hull is not enough to hold the boat in a turn, and it could spin and trip, kicking the driver out or worse.

Shoot, I have seen monster motors on Glasspar G3s, and those boats are only 13 feet. It is certainly doable, just not advisable...

DO IT. HAVE FUN Don't let the old farts here scare ya from having fun. It will probably be a witch to get figured out, but would first DO A FOOT THROTTLE. Gonna need some good trim tabs too...like a flat bottom with solid adjustable mounts...feel your way around till its gets figured out. I DO think that GT is a little heavy though...I'd sell it and look for a old Merc, like Bondo said..lighter. This pic is a 16 foot Flatty thats super light...and insane. Friend owns it, he has another just like it, and I'm looking to find me another XS150 to MAYBE stick on...I'm getting a little old for this stuff (well, not old, just not quite so crazy anymore)....we will know more come spring....

thats a lot different boat than what he's describing, why dont you just find an old carlson or something thats made to do insane speeds and beef that up instead of risking almost certain bodily injury?

I think that the 150 will be OVERkill, but if you must.
There was a 14 footer posted that was beefed up (not 150) so he add large trim tabs to keep his boat on plane. You may need to consider this.

Just my thought based on what I have read.

you deff want to go with hydraulic steering, if you let go of the wheel with mechanical steering at hight speeds the torque of the motor will send the boat to the right/left @ 90 degrees and everyone goes flying... just something to think about ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Re: Johnson 150GT on a 14ft Fiberglass boat...

its a 16ft banshee, the motor is a 115... expecting 50 mph WOT..at LEAST. I had a buddy with the same hull, he had 225 on it and was pushing 70 mph. .. but its like everyone is saying: its not the length of the hull its the design... this banshee, as you can see from the pics, has a very deep V with very strong flare in the bow...the transome is very beefy, and its wide and floaty. it has no problem with a motor that heavy...~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

SWEET boat! Very cool. That's a Rayson Craft isn't it? My dad had one just like it - same color and everything; it has a Merc 1350 shorty. That thing with a XS150 would be insane!

Back to this post... This is a joke, isn't it? No one is REALLY going to put a GT 150 on a little 14 footer, are they? This is too funny to be real. I check back on this post every once in awhile and I laugh every time I read it.

A joke? No Ima Try it.. I was looking at my fiberglass boat today and thought well so many people seem to have done things like this... but then i looked to my left and what did i see... A 12 FT ALUMINUM BOAT!! So now im thinken about chaning my plan froma 14ft fiberglass witha 150 gt to a ALUMINUM 12 ft Row boat with a 150. Ive had my 40 Yamaha Enduro on it and its REALLY fast but i wonder how a 150 would go on it... Some one give me some ideas!!
