Hmmmm!

The 140 is 70% of the boats rated capacity, the 150 slightly more.

I typically like to power boats at 80% or better of capacity.

The 150 will be quicker out of the hole, yet the 140 will burn a lot less fuel.

I think I'd go with the 140, if the price is the same.

Both are fine engines, just different animals.

The 140 is built by Suzuki and is identical to a zuki, except the paint and decals.

The 150 is built by Bombardier and is NOT a new engine. They have proven themselves.

True, the 140 will be quieter, and use less fuel. However, the jury is still out on loooong term durability.

You really can't go wrong with either one. you just have to decide what is most important to you.

The maintenance not cheap on either engine. Four stroke will probley coat more to maintain. I am servicing 2, 2004, 90 hp 4 stroke with over 500 hours, no problems ,except a couple of rigging problems. One had bad tilt/trim sender, all anodes need replacing.

If the boat is rated for a 200 you might want to consider something closer to that. An under powered boat can be a very dangerous thing.

As for the maintenance costs, just ask them for a written cost, at todays prices, what the periodic services (100 hour, 500 hour etc) should cost. That would be interesting to know. It might not hurt to ask another dealer also. Just a second opinion deal.

A 140 on a 21 foot boat just does not seem like enough. Definately take it for a ride and see if that is what you want. It's amazing how many people buy a new boat w/o riding in them first.
