To be honest I've never read a Seloc, only OE manuals so I can't say why the Seloc is wrong saying a 1990 has 2 packs. CDI (Capicator Discharge Ignition) refers to the complete system so we're assuming you mean the power pack(s). In 1988 OMC went to a single pack. In 86 & 87 the small bore V6 loopers used 2 smaller packs. The systems do basically the same thing but the 88 & newer ignitions have added features like SLOW, Quick Start and a different method rev limiter. And a different center magnet on the flywheel.
