I have a Johnson 225 Oceanrunner, 1996 model. I have replaced the stator twice. Once for overcharging and the second time for not charging at all. Both times I could visually look under the flywheel and see one or two coils burned up. Is this normal? What could cause this?

Re: Johnson 225 Ocean Runner stator

When a engine is running the stator has output all the time unless it has a broke winding. What you are describing is a bad rectifier/regulator which in turn can damage stator. Use the new 4 wire(no purple) replacement and double check stator for damage(ohms test) Also replace your wing nuts on battery with lock nuts as loose connections will pop a rectifier.
