Hi all,

I just purchased a secondhand Johnson 25 hp "commercial" engine and have a few questions.

Firstly, what is the year model - the information i have is:

model: HJ25FPO
serial: G03989450

Where should the anode be located - i can't find any pics of a similar engine online.
At the moment an anode is screwed into the cav plate - looks all wrong.

Finally, is it an easy job to remove the gearcase to replace the impeller.

Many thanks,
storm

Welcome to iboats.

Firstly, I'm afraid I don't find a model number like that in my guide. Sorry.

Second, it's probably in the right place. I've seen them mounted there on other 25s. On the port side on top toward the back.

Finally, I'm not sure, but you might check your library for a service manual. Many have them. Although that model might not be there, you should get enough information to get you through the job.

Thanks for the welcome.

The anode is on the port side of the cav plate, on top and towards the back.

It isn't recessed though and sticks out, seems strange to have it on the cav plate. There's a small steel plate about half way up the leg on the starboard side and in the middle that is held in by a couple of screws - i thought that might be where the anode could live and that a blanking plate had been screwed in.

I can't seem to find any info on the model/yr anywhere either - seems like it has a shear pin, exhaust isn't through prop either.

Thanks again,
Storm

hello
the 25 and 28 commercial from 1980 on had a splined prop shft and above the prop exhaust. the small plate covers the shift dissconnect. if you have a shear pin it puts the motor older than 1980 or its cobbled up. describe your ign system. does it have the high tension leads exiting the stator plate or does it have 2 coils on the side of the block?
and its also possible that its an ex military motor. some of them were different than standard production units.
