I recently bought this motor and can't get it started. I can feel compression on both cylinders and it has a spark. I replaced the points . I cleaned the carberator and it is getting gas into it. I don't see any wires that are shorting out either. But i don't no for sure that all the wires are connected correctly, because i don't have a wire diagram. Some times it acts like it might start, makes a loud pop, but then nothing. The plug wires are not reversed.

Any suggestions or maybe a wire diagram would be great!

Go to the Engine FAQs Forum and do "outboard won't start". Let us know what you find.

My guess is that you have a sheared flywheel key, throwing the timing off.

Spark timing is controlled by the position of the flywheel relative to the crankshaft, Anton. The flywheel is fixed in position by a key in slots. If the key shears the flywheel can shift out of position, throwing the spark timing off.

Allright thank you for your really clear help. But i have one question, is there a test so you can see of the flywheel key is really sheared. Because now i have to remove the complete flywheel. And maybe are only a couple of wires wrong connected. I apreciate your help!

If you replaced the points on this engine then you have already had the flywheel off. You will need to pull it again and make sure that the key is not sheared off in the slot. If you did not torque it down correctly ( I believe it is 105 pds but someone will correct this for me) then you may have sheared it when you attempted to start it.

You were right!

I removed the flywheel and saw that i had a sheared flywheel key.

But i discovered a bigger problem. You can see the problem at the pictures by this post. Now i have no spark at all. But i dont know what's the name of this part and were you can order it.

Thanks for your help so far!!
