Johnson 35HP Dual Batt.Charge

I'm putting dual 35 Johnson short shafts on my boat purely for the fun of it. I want to cut down on weight so the gas tank is going under the bow and since these are small engines and since I'm not running a trolling motor or anything more than an in dash MP3 player, I want to only use one battery. Now I want to keep it simple so how do I go about eliminating one of the charging systems? Can I simply disconnect one of the regulators making one motor like a rope start without charging and without ill effects or what? Both motors are early 80s with electronic ignition with CDI timing.

Why do you have to eliminate one charging system, arn't the charging systems regulated?
If it has a stator under the flywheel, can't you just unplug it.

It really isn't a charging system as we are accustomed to in a car. It's more of a battery maintainer, charging at 6 amps or so, with a rectifier. With 2, you might really have a charging system,12 amps.

I don't understand enough about the battery charging output of the engines to know if I can put both systems on one battery. I know they will run without a battery hooked up but I also have heard that can burn out your electronics. So exactly how do I use one battery with two 35's?

Just use 2 garden tractor batteries, 1 for each engine

Just hook up the positive and negitave battery cables from the engines to the battery. I would use a quality battery.

I was suggesting 2 smaller batteries
